History
On March 1, 1928 started the traffic on the Dal-Western Värmland Railway which ran between Mellerud and Arvika. The railroad meant a lot to the people of North Dalsland and southwestern Värmland.
Along the Valley's canal was at the time, many pulp mills that when the railway was able to perform fast transport all year round. Despite the great need for a railroad came right from the start to make losses. The company went bankrupt in 1935 and took over instead of Bergslagen railway, BJ.
The railways were nationalized 1948th During the sixties and seventies increased private car and truck traffic, which meant that the clientele and decreased volume of freight rates. This led in time to the railroad was shut down. The last passenger train on the route Arvika - Bengtsfors was June 9, 1985 and passenger traffic between Mellerud and Bengtsfors was closed on 31 August 1986.
A year later, in 1987, resumed passenger service between Mellerud and Bengtsfors. A foundation of Bengtsfors, Melleruds and Årjängs municipalities started charter and scheduled services during the summer from June to August. The initiative has been very successful. Foundation DVVJ also operates trolley service between Bengtsfors and Årjäng. In Bengtsfors can rent trolley throughout the year and during summer also in Årjäng.
